Who’s Hungry? is a fun book by Dean Hacohen and Sherry Scharschmidt in which children can flip the flaps to feed the animals. Tristan and Kallista had fun reviewing this book.
This is a simple and fun book aimed at toddlers and preschoolers, although Tristan also enjoyed (he was 7 when it arrived). Tristan enjoys reading to his little sister, and this was a book they could do together. Tristan read and Kallista turned the flaps.
Go around the world and find seven hungry animals! What does a bunny, seal, panda, or horse like to eat? Let’s find out, flip the flap and feed the animal.
By the end of the book your little one will be hungry and there’s a plate waiting there ready, too.
Kallista had fun with the pages inside the front and back covers. At the front of the book the various foods are looking good enough to eat…and at the back of the book you’ll see that little bites have been taken out of some of those same foods! I wonder who ate them?
This is a hard-cover book with paper pages within. The illustrations are bright and full of colour. The lines are simple to appeal to the younger age of the readers. Not all of the colour stays within the lines, and this has a lovely effect. It will help younger children know that not everything they do has to be ‘perfect’, art comes in all styles and they’re all beautiful. In fact, the simple line-strokes will mean that children who are a little older may be able to draw some of the characters.

If you’re looking for a new book for your bookshelf that is good for young children, as well as one that can be enjoyed by the slightly-older crew, then this book could be for you.
