Dr. Seuss is a classic! I’m glad to see his books are still inspiring children today, albeit in ways that the Dr. would never have imagined! Kallista has been enjoying using The Cat In The Hat Read And Learn App by Oceanhouse Media for the last month, and it’s a new way for her to interact with this book.
The Cat In The Hat is a fun learning app for children to use and easily adapts to different skill levels. Tristan can read the story to himself or to his little sister, or follow along with the highlighted text. Then they take turns searching for the star and completing the additional learning activities on each page.
Kallista is a beginning reader and she likes to listen to the story being read. With a little encouragement from family, she’s able to read some of the story on her own, with the activities as a reward for her effort.
The way the characters move when looking for the star is entertaining for my children, and I approve of the extra learning interaction of the activities.
I like the options of being able to turn the voice reader on and off for different levels of readers. Also the ability to have background sounds on or off. The sounds are fun, but if a parent wants a little less ‘noise’ while in public.
Finding the star hiding on each page and the extra learning activity that goes along with it makes this more than just a book to read.
My suggestion for the future would be to have a way to slow down the reading so that it’s easier for children to follow the text when they are just really learning to sound words out.
This app is just like bringing the book to life, with my children as the puppet masters. Dr. Seuss lives for another generation of new readers!
