Summer Degusta Box Unveiled

Summer Degusta Box Unveiled at Castle View Academy

This summer is flying by so quickly! I had a week off, but now I seem to be behind even further than before and need at least a month or three off to get everything in order…but as that won’t be happening, I’m writing here on a sunny Sunday afternoon and munching on items from the Summer Degusta Box. Let’s find out what was in it….

Summer Degusta Box Top Picks

Each month we feature our top picks in the box.  Of course, these choices are based on our own tastes, and I’d love to hear what your favourites are, just pop them down in the comments at the end of this post.

Bebeto party mix

Okay, I think the top choice for the whole family this month was the Bebeto Party Mix Tub! The small, chewy, gummy candies coated in extra sugar somehow just hollars out ‘summer’! This box was 400 grams, and with it’s resealable container, it’s perfect for taking along to picnics and then storing away for a rainy day at home. Then of course, you can reuse the box for odds and ends or fill with some delicious baking and pass it on.

premier protein

I enjoyed the Premier Protein Chocolate Brownie Bar while out for a 5-mile walk in the country that took a little longer than expected. It’s rich and the little pieces of chocolate chips generously sprinkled throughout are very nice. There’s a layer of creamy caramel beneath the top coat of chocolate.

The Kids’ Top Picks

Nesquick milkshake powder

When I was a kid in Canada we used to get Nesquik in rectangular tins, and it was very good, so I was keen to try out this product. These days, the powder comes in a recyclable paper packet, but it still contains the bubbly and cold chocolate milkshake that I remember. One thing I like is that they’ve stayed true to themselves and use raw cane sugar rather than alternative sweeteners. This gets a thumbs-up from the kids, too.

plant pops popped lotus seeds

These Plant Pops Popped Lotus Seeds were a little different. They were crunchy with a light taste of peanut butter. Phil quite liked them while watching television and shared them with Kalli, too.

More Summer Products

Pravha

This month there was a large bottle of Pravha Lighter Tasting Pilsner in our box. It was large enough for both Phil and I to enjoy about 3/4 of a pint each. We indulged on our weekly stay-in date night of watching movies and having a meal together. Although it says it’s a lighter tasting Pilsner, we found it to be quite heavy, almost half way to being a stout. That’s not to say it isn’t nice – I had a sip in between bites of caramel popcorn and that combination was very good.

Minor figures nitro cold brew

I was looking forward to trying out the Minor Figures Nitro Cold Brew, but unfortunately I was disappointed. I usually love a cold coffee, but I found this one to be very bitter and not quite as rich as they tend to be. Phil wasn’t bowled over, either, but he did like it more than I.

ManiLife peanut butter

There were two 1-serving size ManiLife peanut butter pots in this month’s box. Both are crunchy – one original, and one deep roast. Phil served these to me on toast with honey (my new favourite breakfast). The peanuts seem to separate from the peanut oil after packaging, but give it a little mix and you’re good to go.

the skinny food co samples

I’ll admit that I didn’t try The Skinny Food Co. Sample Sauces that came as a freebie in this box. The rest of the family did, but they didn’t go over well. These sauces are no to almost no sugar, and to achieve that the main ingredient in each sauce is water, followed by salt, and then thickeners that still leave the sauces runny and without substance. I think using tomato sauce or puree would be better than using this ketchup, and the mayo is really unappetizing visually as well. The fam said the taste was lacking, which meant that these were a no-go for them.
