Scotch rolls is a simple recipe, and a good substitute for cinnamon buns when you don’t have the time, or if you have issues with yeast rising (like me – though I’ve been working on this).
Gather your Scotch Rolls ingredients:
- 1 C Butter
- 3 C Flour
- ½ C Sugar
- 1 Egg
- ¾ C Milk
- 2TBSP Baking powder
- 1 tsp Vanilla
- Brown sugar
And here’s how to make these scrumptious Scotch Roll Cinnamon bun want-to-bes
- Mix dry ingredients
- Beat egg, add milk and vanilla
- Add dry mixture. Handle quickly.
- Roll out on board ¼” thick or less.
Spread some brown sugar on top to make a nice, even covering and roll up like a Swiss roll
Cut into 2” (or smaller) slices
Bake the Scotch Rolls until golden brown
You can make these pretty much any size; large if you’re serving adults, or thinner, smaller ones for children or to serve to many.
Try adding a little cinnamon, mace, or or ground cloves onto the brown sugar for extra spice and variety!

Yummy! Those look delicious. I like the fact that you don’t have to let the scotch rolls rise. Thanks for sharing!

You should try them, they are so good (old recipes always are). And they freeze well, too! What is your favourite recipe?

Brown sugar is great, isn’t it! I love brown sugar and cinnamon on hot buttered toast…however I haven’t had it in ages because Tristan tells me sugar isn’t healthy and he wants me to eat heathy, great kid!

Yum! I just made cinnamon rolls yesterday. They are just so time consuming… but yummy. I’ll have to try these when I’m rushed for time!

I must try some proper rolls this year…or maybe that will be my new year’s resolution! Do you put raisins in yours or not?
