Have you signed up yet for LetterBox Lab? Be quick, the coupon code at the end of this post expires at the end of this month! In my UK homeschooling groups there is a lot of talk and dozens of parents are signing up to this new subscription box filled with at least 5 experiments each month. We recently shared with you what the contents were in the first month’s boxes (Both explore and Investigate), and today the kids are anxious to share the second box with you that LetterBox Lab sent for them!
Science Up Your Sleeve
Every LetterBox Lab has a fun theme…and the second month is Science Up Your Sleeve and it contains lots of fun magic tricks and optical illusions that are sure to entertain children as they learn the tricks to cool science experiments.
This box is very timely for my children as Tristan has been reading through the Harry Potter series at lightening speed, and we’ve been watching the movies together as he finishes them, so Kallista is also enchanted by all things magic. As I’ve mentioned before, each box usually contains enough supplies to do each experiment twice or for two children to do an experiment together. This is a real bonus!
The icing on the cake with this box is that there’s even a magic wand included! This has not left my children’s hands in weeks! And yes, it is indeed needed for some of the tricks.
Science Up Your Sleeve Tricks:
- Magic Wand
- Floating on Air
- Write With Light
- Magic Milk
- Disappearing Water
- Vanishing Flame
- Pico in a Cage
- Blooming Flower
All of the supplies you will need are included, even powdered milk and rubber bands! Fabulous 🙂 The only thing I can thing that isn’t included (for safety purposes) is a match to light the candle. Having everything right there on hand means that the experiments in LetterBox Lab are very portable and can easily be taken along on vacation, to a grandparent’s home, or anywhere, really.
Even before you get started on the experiments, there’s note waiting for you when you open your box…and you can help get rid of the evidence!
What can you make stand on air with static? Levitating a feather above Tristan’s hand, and Kallista has a hair-raising experience!
Floating on Air
Can you make water float in a tube when it’s turned upside down? Make sure you say the magic phrase first, or it might not work!
Write With Light
This trick is all prepped up, but we’re waiting until the evenings are a little darker to achieve the full effect!
Turn milk into plastic; it’s a bit of a smelly process, but Kallista found a solution!
Trick your parents when you pour water into a container, then hold it over your head and nothing comes out!
Can you extinguish a flame without touching it?
Pico in a Cage
An optical illusion, is Pico in his cage or not?
Unfold flowers with secret messages inside…time how long it takes for all to be revealed!
