Paper Plate Sunshine Craft

April 28, 2014 by Crystal McClean

How’s the weather where you are today?  No matter the weather outdoors, it’s always sunny indoors for us with this paper plate sunshine craft my mom did with the children over the ‘Nana-cam’.

Paper plate sunshine supplies

  • 2 equally sized paper plates
  • scissors
  • glue or a stapler
  • yellow paint
  • gold glitter

 Making the paper plate sunshine

The putting-together of the sunshine is really quite straightforward.  Cut one of the paper plates into 8 equal triangles as in the photo below.

Use some glue or a stapler to attach the triangles to the plate like so.

Tristan had to use his muscles to work the stapler!

When all of the rays have been attached to the sun it’s time to paint the sunshine yellow.  Kallista also added some gold glitter to her wet paint to give a more sparkling effect.

Tristan likes to be as accurate as he can be.  It was a mostly sunny day when the children made these, but there were a few clouds in the sky so he added a few fluffy cotton balls to his creation.

The children really enjoyed working on this craft with their Nana over the Pacific!  I love that they are making memories with her, even when they can’t be together.  They always look forward to their time together.

How do your children bond with their grandparents?

If you’d like to see more of our paper plate crafts, we’ve also made a rainbow, dinosaurs, and a snowman in addition to the others you can see on the cardboard crafts page.
