August in Northern Ireland is known locally as the ‘day eater’ month (or something similar to that), and it certainly is true. Just in the past 2 weeks the days have become very noticeably shorter and I have to turn a light on in the evenings about two hours earlier than I did just a couple of weeks ago! I can tell at this time of year that we’re further north than my Canadian hometown of Regina. However, I also know that further north in Scandinavia they’ll be preparing for the long, dark winters. I haven’t (yet) been up there in the winter, but I was in Finland the week leading up to the summer solstice and the days were lovely and long (the only drawback were the mosquitoes). The residents were friendly, and there was a feeling of fun in the air. Scroll down to find out some cool facts about interesting Finland and how you can get involved in the link up.
