Why Homeschool Dads Rock!

Little did I know when we started down this home education road how all-encompassing it would be; it’s an entire lifestyle, not just something you ‘do.’  Dare I say that my husband, Phil, didn’t know what he was getting into (and nor did I, for that matter).  There are many reasons why every father is fabulous, but homeschool dads rock for some unique reasons; here are just a few of them; all of them provided by us homeschooling moms.

Reasons Why Homeschool Dads Rock

Homeschooling takes up space, and when space and storage are lacking, the home ed clutter can get a little lot out of control at times.  My own husband knows that the mess gets to me more than him so he doesn’t often mention it when he walks in at the end of a day at work and it looks like our home has been ransacked; no, it’s just us, we sacked it and then ran!

Along that vein, as much as I love the homeschool life and spending time with my children; it can be difficult at times. It’s always heartwarming when Phil comes in the door from the outside world and states that the kids are never going to school after he has seen or heard for himself what goes on with the ‘normal’ kids on the street.  Yes, we’re okay with not running with the in crowd and happy to have his support.

One of the best reasons Phil rocks is when he takes part in the children’s education along with them, whether it’s aviation, engineering, art class, building a kite, or going on a field trip, it’s awesome when they participate and get carried away; even helping to clean up the math supplies….such as eating the jelly beans so that the kids couldn’t do their assignment the next day!  No, he’ll never hear the end of that mistake, but it’s funny and you have to have a sense of humour to be a homeschool dad!

Now that I’ve given three reasons why we love our homeschool dad, here are some wonderful quotes from some great homeschool bloggers; be sure to check out their websites for more information on homeschooling and life in general!

Homeschool Dads Rock because…..

I personally think that my husband rocks because he supports me 100% in this endeavour. He does mention to me that he doesn’t know how I do it all so well and that means a lot to me, especially because he was homeschooled himself (along with his 6 siblings).

Because he is happy to help with the things I can’t do! (like dissections).

Because they love us enough to work a day job (or two) so we can spend more time with the children.  They encourage us that educating our children IS a worthwhile way to spend our time, and they love field trips as much as we do!  But mostly, because he lets me be myself and tailor the girls’ education to them instead of following the crowd… or the boxed curriculum!

Helping to prepare meals when we study a country for a week. Helps finding recipes, in encouraging us to be brave, and in the cooking.  He’s a great help.   He comes along on most field trips and now that the lad’s getting older, he sometimes goes instead of me.  :)
