Cooked Playdough Recipe

May 5, 2012 by Crystal McClean

This is the recipe for cooked playdough my mom used when we were small.  Very young ones will have to be happy just to watch the process of cooking the playdough as it’s done on the stove, but I prefer this over the uncooked type.  It lasts for months and has a lovely aroma to it as well.

1 Cup Flour
1 Cup Water
½ Cup Salt
2tsp  Cream of Tarter
1TBSP Cooking Oil
few drops of food colouring
2-3 drops of oil of clove

Now it’s time to get cooking!

This keeps in the  fridge without cloves up to 1 year in an airtight container.

(We tend not to leave it this long as so many little fingers use it and we make new colours for upcoming celebrations).

If the dough dries out, add a few drops of oil and work it in.

Enjoy hours and hours of fun and creativity!

Do your little ones want to role-play in the kitchen?  Set up a pretend play Baker’s Shop for their cooked playdough creations!  For more fun, see our recipes for play page.
