I hadn’t heard of Hotel Chocolat until September when I was in the Royal Tunbridge Wells area of England to see my Uncle and Aunt for a day while they were over from Canada last fall. We took the train to Royal Tunbridge Wells for lunch and a wander around the Pantiles area. After we’d enjoyed a pub lunch together and caught up my Aunt wanted to find Hotel Chocolat as she’d heard about it and wanted to check it out for herself. We found it in a mall on the high street.
Walking in was a new experience awaiting us. Talk about a choc-o-holic’s heaven! There were so many luxury combinations of chocolate; both in solid and liquid forms enticingly presented and with very alluring descriptions.
Though it was ever-so-tempting, I didn’t make a purchase that day as I only had my carry-on to take with me on the flight back that same day. My Aunt and Uncle, however, did make a few purchases for family and friends, as well as themselves. My aunt bought our children a Hotel Chocolat treat; some lovely little caramel buttons that they rationed out for special treats now and then. I did have a small taste of them, but they were for the kids so I had to restrain myself and hide them out of my own sight!
So when the chance came along to have my very own Hotel Chocolat experience I signed up. I was checking the street for the postman daily…not wanting to walk to the library in case we missed our delivery!
Our package arrived, well-protected and in a lovely gift bag with my name on it! I wanted to devour it right away as the egg and chips looked and smelled so inviting. But I
impatiently waited until Phil and I had our date night in to share this treat with him.
I’ll share a little something about me with you…when I was younger I was allergic to chocolate for a few years. So when Easter rolled around I would receive white chocolate. I never did acquire a taste for it, it was just too sweet without much real flavour. This Hotel Chocolat Egg white isn’t too sweet at all, and you can taste the vanilla seeds. The first thing I said to Phil was, “This is the BEST white chocolate I’ve ever had!”. Phil was disappointed because he was thinking that he would have the egg all to himself!
The caramel-filled chocolate chips are rich and creamy and not something to be scoffed down, but rather to be enjoyed slowly with all of your senses. They were the perfect indulgence to share with my husband by candle-light while the children slept peacefully. We can’t let the children enjoy all of the Easter treats, now can we? That’s just not fair! And the quirkiness of the Egg & Chips will make you feel like a youngster again!
This year Hotel Chocolat has come out with a range of new Easter designs that all look so appealing! Why not order one for that special someone, as well as one for yourself. There’s currently a special running that will see you receive a free gift worth £12.50 with orders placed over £35.00.
The last time I was in Belfast I did see that there is now a Hotel Chocolat shop there in the Corn Market area, and I pointed it out to Phil. I admit, I have mixed feelings about it being so close. It’s great to have a luxury chocolate shop in Belfast, but with chocolate so rich and delicious it could be a danger – to me!
I know where I’ll be going for chocolate for special occasions and gifts from now on!
Now….where did that last chip disappear to?? PHIL…!!!!!!
I received a box of Hotel Chocolat’s Egg & Chips in exchange for our honest opinions. No other compensation has been received.
