Math. Love it or hate it, wouldn’t you like your children to have fun while reviewing or getting extra math practice in? 10 Monkeys Math World could be just the thing you have been looking for! 10 Monkeys Math World is aimed at children from kindergarten to grade 3.
The initial levels to choose from are 0-10, 0-20, 0-100, 0-1000, and geometry will be making an appearance soon. Once you’ve chosen the level to purchase for your child, you then will have your choice among the following topics within each level: number recognition, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, money, and text problems.
Some of the games have visuals to reinforce the concept. I like the use of base 10 when learning about adding by 10s and 1s, for example.
10 Monkeys Math World games don’t “teach” math skills, but the activities are great for extra practice and putting new skills to use. Children will work at their own pace and can easily “swing” from one math skill to another, doing a little of this and a little of that so they won’t get bored. Children also have the opportunity to do the same activity over and over again. Each time they start again the questions will vary to keep kids thinking.
10 Monkeys Math World is available in English (USA or UK) as well as Finish, Swedish, and Spanish. I like having the option of either the USA or the UK for work with currencies. My children can learn about either dollars or pounds. It is fantastic to have this choice for those of us away from ‘home’ (I’m from Canada but the $ symbol is the same as the USA).
Kids (and their parents) can track their progress through the activities. Points are given for completing each activity and there are badges and honours that can be collected for the length of time played or for correct answers in particular categories to keep children motivated.
Your child can choose their own monkey character avatar and name to use. My children love the cute little characters they can choose from.
These math games are internet-based so as long as you have internet access you’re good to go – on a pc, laptop, iPad, android and even on an interactive whiteboard.
There aren’t any advertisements or downloads within the game so you know your child won’t be subjected to other content, and you won’t find charges on your credit card from ‘extras’.
The website is very easy to move through, even for young children. This is important so that kids (and parents) don’t become frustrated. There’s nothing worse than a program that is difficult to maneuver through. Who has time for learning how to work through a game instead of just sitting down and being ready to go? Certainly not us!
Kallista (4), caught on very quickly to the math games and really enjoyed herself; only hopping down from the desk when dinner was on the table. She was so pleased that she was able to do the same program as her big brother.
Each level of the game is priced at $5.90 a year for each child so you won’t be purchasing levels that are too advanced for your child, but will also have room to grow as your child advances by purchasing higher levels. There are no monthly fees to worry about, just a yearly payment and away you go! You can try out 10 Monkeys Math World before you buy so you know’ll what to expect and not have buyer’s remorse. Try it out yourself today and let me know what you think.
I was sponsored by 10 Monkeys Math World to review their product, but all opinions are my own. For more information please read my full disclosure.
